Abalone that is
sometimes dyed.
The stone in the
picture is a
Blue Paua
Shell. It is NOT
Opal, but you
will find web
sites and Ebay
sellers
referring to it
as Opal. You
will also find
Paua Shell
called Sea Opal,
which just adds
to the
confusion. It is
a shell formed
by a living
creature, just
like Pearls are
formed by a
living creature.
